YUNSMP (Phased Out)

The YU Student Nurse Mentorship Program is a new and innovative approach to supporting the transition of nursing students to York University. This program was developed by a sub-committee of NSAY nursing students in collaboration with Stong College and the School of Nursing. The aim of the program is to assist incoming nursing students during their transition into the nursing program at York University. Our vision is to guide students through mentoring relationships fostered through the use of online media and face-to-face interactions. Our mission is to provide nursing students with a positive and successful experience during their studies by connecting new students with a team of enthusiastic and qualified senior students, who act as their mentors.

The program runs in two phases. The first phase is online during August, where all incoming students receive guidance from mentors that are part of their specific program (2nd Entry and Collaborative) through Facebook. The second phase runs from September to March. During this face-to-face component, students will have the opportunity to take part in 4 workshops beneficial to the nursing profession. Alumni mentors are also available to provide support and information to senior mentors in this program.

In addition to the benefits of forming connections with upper-year students, mentees will receive support in transitioning to York University and have opportunities to participate in workshops that are relevant to the nursing student life.

Incoming students that wish to take part in this program and become mentees can simply join this group on YU Connect and the Facebook page.
